PA Motorsport Historic Formula Ford
Driver Darren Burke has won the 2010 Historic Formula Ford Championship with three round remaining. The Team ZX1 backed driver has won all 11 races so far this season, often at circuits he has not visited before. At castle Combe, form Champion Nelson Rowe returned to try and stop the dominant run by Burke and his Team ZX1 Macon MR8. Rowe used his local circuit knowledge to good effect to secure pole position whilst Burke was trying to quickly learn the circuit in the Macon.
Burke qualified second just 1 tenth shy of pole but come the race a real battle ensued! The lead changed ten times in seven laps with both cars glued together and running at lap record pace all the while pulling away from the rest of the pack by two seconds a lap!!. However, it was Burke who came out on top to take the win at the fast Wiltshire circuit.
Just six days later the Historici Forumula Ford Championship was at Croft curcuit in North Yorkshire, again a circuit Darren Burke had not raced on before. This time, despite a wet/dry qualifying session it was the PA Motorsport Macon on pole again. Croft was a double header meeting and with he first race being wet another set of challenges lay ahead for Darren Burke. Despite a 6 car length lead over the opening lap, coming into the Complex for the first time the conditions caught Darren out and making his first mistake of the year he spun. He watched as almost the whole field sped by while he desperately tried to restart the Macon. Eventually some 20 seconds later the engine fired and Darren was off again in 15th place and in treacherous conditions....
The next 9 laps were simply stunning with the PA Motorsport lapping up to 5 seconds a lap faster than the leader, overtaking cars along the way. With one lap to go Darren was up to second place 6 car lengths behind the leader, however, halfway round the lst lap the commentator confirmed what the PA Motorsport team had hoped and the Team ZX1 Macon was, unbeliveably back in front. When the car came into sight of the pit wall for the final time Burke had a lead of 4 seconds and took his 10th straight win of the year!!
Sunday's race was dry and Burke was never headed as he catapulted the PA Motorsport Macon MR8 off of the line into a lead he would never lose. Burke established a new lap record during the race eventually wond 23 seconds from former F1 driver Ian Ashley. This win was particularly sweet for the PA Motorsport Team as not only was the unbeaten run of wins still intact but also this clinched the 2010 Historic Formula Ford Championship with three rounds still remaining.
