Lost oil in Rover 1.8 TDL
"A few weeks ago my wife came home from visiting her sister to tell me that the oil warning light had come on while driving home. On opening the bonnet of my Rover 1.8 TDL I discovered the engine compartment was covered in oil.
I checked the dipstick to find not a drop of oil was present in the sump. After a few minutes investigation I found that a pipe leading to the oil cooler had become uncoupled from the cooler. I immediately thought that this was the end of this engine.
I checked with my wife to find out how far the car had been driven with no oil and also what temperature the gauge was reading on the way home, would you believe 4 miles and the gauge never budged!.
I refitted the pipe and refilled with oil – the engine started first kick and ticked over perfectly. There was no damage at all. The reason? The ZX1 I had installed the week before would be my guess.
